Feeling the senses of joy while the slightly overwhelming sensation of sadness … no, this is not a split state of emotional balance, this is called longing.

In life there is never a total whiteness or a total blackness, there is always the palette of tones and hues that intertwine their best qualities with each other to create a new shade of experiences. This kind of blend can be observed in its fullest form of excellence in nature where serenity blue joyfully hugs cobalt shades of intangible softness beautifully painted above in the sky. On contrary, the Mother Earth seasonally takes care of the healthiest strings of the greenest hues of grass to see the daylight accompanies by the palette of browns and yellows to form never-completed, as always evolving, the wholeness of nature.

The world of emotions is equally enchanting, maybe not that obvious in its immediate expressiveness but how wonderfully intriguing in its impersonification of possibilities. Our emotional part of being a human is not a simple, one-way guidepost of the map of our life experiences that are easy to predict; it comprises primary, secondary and higher emotions that together build the dimension of persons’ sensations. Even though every one of us at a certain stage of our life experiences longing, a sensation that can be characterized by a duality of depressive and happy moments, it is not often talked about neither plays a leading role in scientific journal entries.

Longing, the emotion of yearning desire for something oftentimes unattainable takes a variety of forms and shapes throughout our life journey. Sometimes misinterpreted as jealousy or unhealthy hunger for something that is definitely out of our reach, other times take a form of a strong motivation towards striving for a better outcome.

Can an authentic longing bring us closer to the true desires that are rooted in love, kindness and self-actualization? Can longing be seen as the expression of the essence of being a human with his/hers/its true higher wants and needs to become the best version of him/her/its – self?

The answer can only be found if the mind is trained to abandon its’ focus on tangible assets that usually signify our status amongst others based on physical possessions rather than intellectual wealth.

Depending on the state of the mind, the sensation of longing can either play the role of the Northern Star that guides our acts towards something higher than our own selves, other times when uncontrolled or pointed into the wrong direction, longing can lead our beautifully capable minds on a pathway of the Alighieri’s inferno that takes a form of the darkest personification of the hopeless, lightless and pathless state of mind that seems to not be able to find the light …

Through the great dark was no releasing way;

Above that dark was no relieving star”

D. Alighieri

This unique emotion of longing deserves a higher level of attention, conscious awareness and self-prioritization as it has this incredible power to determine the way our mind will express itself and reach territories that might turn into the most influential blueprint of our own and other lives. Channelling longing to reach the milestones of the bigger plan, to build consistency in thinking and reading emotions to support becoming the better … and the more determined to experience and to personificate quality …

Longing is the encouragement to look for the light
