Let’s meet Dr Leaf, this incredible American communication pathologist and specialist in cognitive neuroscience + neuropsychology shares a few remarkably discovering tips well-backed by research on brain, mind, soul and well-being.

“Think & Eat Yourself Smart” is a bible of the real rules for happiness and longevity, sharp and active mind. The book comprises of three parts, which in an intriguing way discovers the right path to living in harmony with nature, our bodies and the real needs that are aligned with feeding our soul rather than “wants”.

Firstly, Dr Leaf looks through the prism of MAD (Modern American Diet) choices of eating, related illnesses, truths and other temptations that not necessarily are linked solely to the American style of living but perhaps (and unfortunately) wider audiences.

Secondly, the attention is grabbed by reminding that the responsibility for our lives lays on us, our minds in particular. Some simple tips such as listening to our bodies, removing toxicity from our lives in forms of overexposure to media, confused thoughts, destructive choices and emotions, sugars, gluten and possibly meat evoke the quality of choice we make on the road to looking after our body, brain and mind.

Thirdly, not to be too research and science orientated, Dr Leaf shares a few receipts for nutritious food choices that are simple, quick and deliciously tempting! Some succulent names reveal a full palette that teases our sense of taste in a very decadent but simple way … avocado dandelion salad or balsamic brussels sprouts with roasted chestnuts …

“Let eating and thinking be the medicine” | Dr Leaf

Knowledge, attitude and skills are driven by controlled thinking direct our food choices. There is this close interconnectivity between mind and eating … sometimes influenced by emotions, toxic thoughts the immediate reaction would be seeking pleasure and avoiding the danger which is unpleasant thought planted in our mind. The best path is to take a step back, reframe what just has happened and do not react immediately, give ourself some time to act – but act in line with the brain, not under any other influence. As simple as it might sound, in reality, we constantly find ourselves struggling to make the right choices but life is about the self-discovering journey rather than always RIGHT arrival.
